Something You Need To Know Before You Buy A CLA 250

Business

The second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 has been on duty in the US market since 2019 and is considered one of the best in the 4-door compact luxury coupe segment. Its striking exterior design, beautifully crafted interior and fun-to-drive nature have made it a fan favorite in its segment. With the launch of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250, the German marque continues the philosophy of no major changes. If you are interested in how CLA 250 prevails in other markets, such as CLA 250 Malaysia, and CAL 250 Vietnam, you can search for information on Wapcar.my.

Launching with a base MSRP of $38,200 and featuring a unique trim configuration with  FWD or 4MATIC AWD powertrain options, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 closely resembles the upcoming 2021 model. The dynamics, interior features and driver-assistance technology remain unchanged. The only change is the inclusion of a SiriusXM radio,  now offered with an optional premium package. Competing with the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, Cadillac CT4 and Volvo S60, here are 10 things you need to know before you buy the 2022 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250. Also, if you want to know the CLA 250 price in other countries, like CLA 250 price Malaysia, CLA 250 price in Vietnam, etc, you can browse the website of Wapcar.

Quality

The 2nd-gen CLA 250 has made a great step compared with its predecessors when it comes to quality. Where later models are known for their lightweight and relatively flimsy exterior construction, especially compared to other Mercedes offerings, buyers won’t feel the same way with the 2022 model.

Wing The door closes with a reassuring thud you’d expect from a Mercedes, and all body panels feel solid. The same goes for the cabin, with soft-touch materials throughout. There are no uneven dashboard gaps or fitment issues, and the CLA 250 looks worthy compared to the slightly cheaper 2-Series Gran Coupe.

Technology

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 2022 does not lose all the driver assistance features of the optional package, which was not the case with the previous generation. Features such as Active Brake Assist with automatic braking, Collision Mitigation System, Driver Meter Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear View Camera with parking sensors are standard. All other driver assistance features are part of the optional package.

Basic safety features such as ABS, airbags, traction control, stability control, side beams, limited driving mode and a tire pressure monitoring system are also standard. While the vehicle has yet to be tested by  NHTSA and IIHS, we expect it to deliver excellent results thanks to its solid build quality and many standard safety features.

Infotainment System

The 7-inch MBUX touchscreen infotainment system remains unchanged from older models and remains one of the best in its class. We love the sharp display quality and brightness levels offered by this system. The viewing angles are perfect and the interface is very simple. Using the touchpad, in the central console, you can have access to the infotainment.

As for the list of standard features, the CLA 250 comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, steering wheel controls, voice recognition, Aux, Bluetooth, and navigation. The 8-speaker sound system provides a powerful and clear audio experience, however, we strongly recommend the optional Burmester sound system.

Powertrain

The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission, the car produces 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the road via an FWD or 4MATIC AWD transmission and can go 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. The maximum speed with electricity is 130 mph.

The 2022 CLA 250’s quick acceleration will leave potential buyers satisfied, and they won’t want more. Putting the car in sports mode, the suspension, engine and transmission get a bit stronger, making driving quite enjoyable. However, the transmission is a bit messy at times, especially when driving with metal pedals.

Fuel Efficiency

The turbocharged 4-speed engine and 7-speed automatic transmission receive no updates compared to the upcoming 2021 version and therefore, fuel efficiency is also kept the same. The FWD variant can hit 25 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway, which equates to a combined petrol consumption of 29 MPG.

If you get the 4MATIC AWD variant,  fuel efficiency drops slightly to 24 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. With a fuel tank capacity of 13.5 gallons, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 2022 can go a decent distance with a full tank of gas, which turns out to be even better than the 2 Series Gran Coupe.

Brakes

Brakes on the  Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 2022 are provided by 13″ front and 12.6″ rear rotors. All the other braking features you would normally find on a luxury 4-door coupe are also fitted on board. The brakes feel sharp and precise, and the driver should have no problem stopping the CLA 250 at high speeds.

We noticed the initial difficulty that appeared with the segment-standard BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. Braking when you press harder on the brake pedal is also very good. The brake pedal provides impressive feedback, and the front end of the car is very limited. The 70-0 mph braking distance of 166 feet is also the lowest among cars.

Design of cabin

The interior of the  Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 2022 is very familiar with old models. MB Tex or leather upholstery is an option, and the seats are by far the most comfortable in the segment. The contrasting stitching and beautiful integration of the headrests make it a much more expensive model. The dashboard and door cards are also available in a variety of leather, aluminum and soft plastic materials.

Ambient lighting makes the cabin stand out at night. It is also customizable with 64 colors. The massive 7 digital gauge cluster and infotainment system are seamlessly integrated, and the monolithic unit design stands out. The dual-step dash design with soft materials is the same. The elements are the same. It also enhances the look of the cabin.

Cabin Space remains to be improved

As what Mercedes calls a 4-door coupe,  cabin space has been lacking in all model years of the CLA 250, and the same goes for this 2022 iteration. Headroom and legroom are on par with the segment and they’ll never feel claustrophobic.

The front seats are very supportive and also have heat, ventilation and electrical support. However, the rear seats will not be very comfortable for tall people, because headroom and legroom are a bit tight. Although the shoulder room is one of the best, it still cannot accommodate three passengers with the greatest comfort. It is also not the best.

Style caters to the young’s preference

The exterior design of  CLA 250  always stands out from competitors in the same segment. The youthful design and coupe-like proportions allow the car to have a second look when on the road.  10 color schemes, 8 different alloy wheel designs to choose from, and multiple option packages set it apart from its rivals.

The handsome front end receives sharp LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, black accents on the grille and air intakes, and a masculine bonnet design. The side and rear design are unchanged, however,  sharp lines, LED taillights and standard 18-inch alloy wheels complete the design nicely. We also recommend choosing the  AMG Line with Night Package option, which gives the CLA 250 design much more character.

Driving Experience

Although the  Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 2022 looks very sporty from the outside, it turns out to be a comfortable car for traveling. We were pleased with the well-tuned suspension setup that weathered any bumps on American roads while driving at slow speeds. The ride is also almost flat at highway speeds.

In addition to the ride comfort, the steering also plays a huge role in making the CLA 250  more relaxed than its competitors. The steering is light at low and heavy speeds as well as the acceleration, feel and response are also decent. The brakes are firm and don’t feel jerky like the CT4. However, we found the transmission a bit confusing and passengers could feel the change.
